Evans John Freiberger, 86, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, died Thursday morning, February 28, 2019, in New Albany, Indiana. Evans retired after many years of work with Sonoco and as the Lafayette Township Trustee. He was a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church in Floyds Knobs, the VFW Hobart Beach Post 1693, the Floyds Knobs Conservation Club, American Legion Post 42, the Floyd County Democrats, and the Floyds Knobs Community Club.
Evans was born on March 9, 1932, in New Albany to the late George and Agnes (Renn) Freiberger. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Betty (Kerstiens) Freiberger; son, Glenn Freiberger; siblings, Willis, Cletus, Vincent, Wilfred, and Melvin Freiberger and Geneva Gullett.
He is survived by his sons, Duane Freiberger (Mary Jane) and Charles Freiberger (Patti); grandchildren, Jeff Freiberger (Lisa), Mary Lou Freiberger, Katey Bizzell (Mike), and Kelly Freiberger; great-grandchildren, Rayden, Rayna, Spencer, and Parker; and brothers, Eugene and Omer Freiberger.
A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN 47150). His Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Friday, March 8, 2019, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church with military honors and burial following in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the WHAS Crusade for Children in c/o the Lafayette Township VFD.
