Estella Louise Johnson, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, in New Albany, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 12, 1929, in Louisville, Kentucky, Estella was a vibrant spirit whose warmth and kindness touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was a proud graduate of Scribner High School in New Albany, Indiana, where she distinguished herself as the salutatorian of her class. This achievement was a testament to her dedication and commitment to excellence, traits that would define her throughout her life. Estella cherished education and instilled a love of learning in her children and grandchildren.
A devoted homemaker, Estella took immense pride in caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her home was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and joy, filled with the delicious aromas of her cooking and the sounds of family gatherings. She had a passion for traveling and cruising, adventures that she relished and shared with those she loved. These journeys created lasting memories and stories that will be fondly remembered by her family.
Estella is survived by her two sons, Craig (Darlene) Johnson and Steven Wayne Johnson, who will forever hold dear the lessons and love she imparted to them. Her grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Johnson and Melanie Johnson, were sources of great joy in her life, and she took immense pride in her great-grandchildren, Zachary and Adriana Johnson. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Hickerson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will carry her spirit in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, William Frank Johnson, who was her partner in life and love. Estella is also reunited in spirit with her parents, Richard and Anna Huggins, as well as her brothers, Richard and Donald Huggins.
Estella Louise Johnson’s remarkable life was characterized by love, strength, and an unwavering commitment to her family and God. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion that will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her memory will forever be cherished, and she will be deeply missed.
