Celebrating the Life of Eric Ricardo Russell March 19, 1953 – July 15, 2026 

Today we gather with heavy hearts, but also with deep gratitude, to celebrate the remarkable life of Eric Ricardo Russell—a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, neighbor, and servant of the community. Eric was born on March 19, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky. On July 15, 2026, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, at the Hospirus Unit of Norton Pavilion in downtown Louisville. While our hearts ache with his absence, we find comfort in knowing that he lived a life full of purpose, compassion, laughter, and love. He was a devoted family man whose greatest pride was his children: Adrianne Braggs (Lamar), Odell Smith, Erica Williams, Eric Calhoun, Marlone Calhoun, and Evon Russell. He was proud to also have 19 grands and 9 greatgrands each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life. His family was his heart, and there was nothing he wouldn't do to support and encourage those he loved. Eric was preceded in death by his loving parents, Edith K Russell and Charles L Russell; his sisters, Alisa, Sherrie, Nina and his brother, Darrell. We take comfort in imagining the joyful reunion they now share. Survived by his beloved siblings: Patricia Smith, Phyllis Lyles (Delton), Brenda Munson, Deborah Taylor, Dennis Russell, Chris Russell, and Tina Valdes (Nelson), along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by his kindness. Eric dedicated many years of his life to GE Appliances before retiring. His work ethic reflected the kind of man he was—dependable, hardworking, and committed. But if you knew Eric, you knew his true life's work extended far beyond any job title. Eric had a gift for bringing people together. Whether he was hosting one of his legendary parties, firing up the grill for a neighborhood cookout, or simply gathering with friends at the park, he knew how to make everyone feel welcome. His laughter was contagious, his smile was genuine, and his presence made every gathering feel like home. He was an incredible storyteller. Anyone who sat with Eric for a while knew they were in for a story—one that would make you laugh until your sides hurt, teach you a lesson, or leave you reflecting long after the conversation ended. His stories weren't just entertainment; they were pieces of his heart, shared generously with everyone around him. Eric also wore his love for Louisville proudly. He was a loyal University of Louisville Cardinals fan, always cheering on his team with enthusiasm and hometown pride. Perhaps Eric's greatest legacy is found in his servant heart. Through his longstanding relationships with churches throughout Louisville, he devoted countless hours to helping those in need. Whether providing food, clothing, or a helping hand, Eric believed that everyone deserved compassion and dignity. He never sought recognition for his good deeds. He simply saw a need and answered the call. His generosity wasn't measured by what he gave, but by the love with which he gave it. Eric taught us that true wealth is found not in what we accumulate, but in the lives we touch. His kindness created ripples throughout this community that will continue for generations. His legacy lives on in every person he encouraged, every family he helped, every meal he served, and every act of love he inspired. Though we mourn today, we also celebrate. We celebrate a man who loved deeply, gave freely, laughed often, and lived faithfully. We celebrate a father who showed his children what strength and compassion look like. We celebrate a grandfather whose love will continue to guide future generations. We celebrate a friend whose loyalty never wavered and whose stories will be retold for years to come. As we say goodbye, let us not only remember Eric for how he left this world, but for how he lived in it—with open arms, an open heart, and a spirit that never stopped giving. Rest peacefully, Eric Ricardo Russell. Your work here is done. Your love remains. Your stories will continue to be told. Your legacy will live on in all of us. Well done, good and faithful servant. May his memory continue to be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

Friends and family are invited to a Gathering in his honor from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243. A service to celebrate Eric's life will follow at 4pm at the funeral home.
