Emmett Ryan King, age 95, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on October 20, 1921. He attended Central High School, graduating in 1939. He also graduated from the old Davis Trade School, where he earned certifications in masonry and tailoring. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Emmett retired from General Electric Company after 35 years of faithful service, as well as 22 years of service at Our Lady of Peace Hospital. He was also a member of Beargrass Baptist Church.
Emmett was married for 45 years to the late Ruby Whethers. He was the father of three children, all of which preceded him in death. Emmett King, Jr., Don King and Hazel King Lane.
Emmett is survived by his long-time companion, Doris Traynor; and his loving and caring family. He is also survived by a host of family and friends, including a devoted niece, Gerry Ellis, who cared for him.
Visitation will be 10-11:30 on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown, with a celebration of Emmett's life at 11:30am. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
