Elnora "Mae" (Mitchem) Higgins, 96, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Sunday afternoon, September 30, 2018.
She was born on June 23, 1922, in New Albany to the late Nathan and Estelle (Bunch) Mitchem. Mae was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Higgins; daughters, Helen Higgins, and Beverly French; grandson, Terrence Taylor; son-in-law, David Taylor; sister, Norma Duncan; and brothers, John, Bill, Albert, Earl, Charles, Robert, and Leon Mitchem.
Mae is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Taylor Johnson (Willie); sisters, Wilma Southers and Charlotte Tumey; grandchildren, Pamela Spalding (Chris), Michelle Taylor, Daryl French (Melissa), Dion Taylor (Sherrie), and Jonathan Taylor (Sabdi); great-grandchildren, Candice Henderson, Alex French, Tyler French, Beka French, CC French, Hannah Taylor, Dion Taylor, Jr., Tiarra Taylor, and Kahliah Bland; great-great-grandson, Jayce Henderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018, at Greater Mount Zion Apostolic Church (3845 Wayne Street, New Albany). Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the church with burial to follow at West Haven Cemetery.
