Elmo Goldsmith, a cherished resident of Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully departed from this world on September 8, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on June 19, 1935, in Oolite, Kentucky, he was the beloved son of the late William and Theora (Young) Goldsmith. Elmo's legacy is built not only on his accomplishments but on the unwavering love he shared with his family.
He is preceded in death by his siblings: Gladys Campisano, Violet Goldsmith, Madeline Hudson, Melvin Goldsmith, and William Goldsmith. Elmo leaves behind a large and loving family, including his devoted children, Cindy (Gary) Jones, Diane (Dawling) Forbis, Robin (Richard) Mays, Steven (Carla) Goldsmith, and Clifford Goldsmith. He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and a doting great-grandfather to 15 great-grandchildren. Elmo is also survived by his siblings, Gaylen Goldsmith, Ronny Goldsmith, and Terry Goldsmith.
Elmo dedicated his professional life to the Produce Sales industry before retiring, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. His faith was an integral part of who he was; he was a devoted member of Southeast Christian Church, where he found tremendous joy in participating in the Southeast Kids Ministries and the Elmo Ministry. His talents shone brightly in the Southeast Masters Men Choir, and prior to his time at Southeast, he proudly served as the song leader at Parkwood Baptist Church.
Known for his strong work ethic and nurturing spirit, Elmo was a great provider for his family. He was not only a father to his children but also a role model for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, instilling values of perseverance and dedication in their hearts. He enriched the lives of those around him through his passions—fishing, swimming, and skiing—creating countless cherished memories with his family along the way.
