Listen to Obituary

Elmer Doyle Gittings, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a proud U.S. Army veteran, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on July 12, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky, Elmer was a beacon of love and strength for his family and friends throughout his life.

With a career spanning over 20 years at Nibco Manufacturing, Elmer was well-respected in his profession. However, his work was just one aspect of a life filled with purpose and devotion. His faith, nurtured during his time as a member of Shepherdsville Gospel Chapel, significantly defined his character. For Elmer, his relationship with God was integral; it guided him through grief, challenges and celebrations alike.

Elmer's military service, proudly fulfilled during the Vietnam War, stationed him in Worms, Germany, and solidified his commitment to serving his country. This dedication extended beyond his years in the army, as he embraced his family and community with the same devotion. Elmer loved being outdoors, fishing, spending time with family and particularly cherished his 1971 Mustang.

Elmer was a beloved member of his family, who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his daughter Dana Macallaster, stepdaughter Sandra Via, granddaughters Megan and Rachel (Jesse) grandsons Jesse, Joseph, Jacob, as well as his great-grandchildren Lucas, Cora, and Josie Mae. He is also survived by his brothers William (Clara), Daniel (Rhonda), and Michael (Susie), his sister Carrie (Nick), his special friend Phyllis Coy, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many church family members who shared in his journey.

Elmer was predeceased by his beloved wife Kathy, his father William E. Gittings Sr., his mother Vitula M. Lewis Gittings, his son Gary E. Gittings, his stepdaughter Jessica Marie, and brothers Stephen B. Gittings and James Kevin Gittings. Though they have parted from this earthly realm, they remained forever in his heart.

To honor Elmer's life and legacy, visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19th  from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 3:00 PM both at Shepherdsville Gospel Chapel located at 253 Hester Street, Shepherdsville, KY 40165.

Elmer Doyle Gittings leaves behind treasured memories, unyielding love, and enduring faith. His impact on the lives he touched will forever resonate, as he now walks with the Lord in eternal peace.
