Elma Pearl (Scharer-Thomas) Lenz, 84, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 24, 2020, surrounded by family. She worked in the cafeteria at Fairmont Elementary for over 25 years. Elma enjoyed playing bingo, visiting the casino, and having margaritas from Tumbleweed. Her favorite flowers were always gardenias and birds of paradise.
She was born on February 21, 1936, in New Albany, Indiana. Elma was preceded in death by her husband, George Leslie Lenz; daughter, Kelly Sue Lenz; and mother, Edith (Scharer) Thomas.
Elma is survived by her daughters, Sondra Yeager (Chris), Melissa Brodfuehrer (Bernie), Karen Curry (Rickey), Kathy Shope (Garry), and Kimberly Rush-Gibson (James); son, Leslie Scott Lenz; sister, Charlotte Nicholson; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and best friend, Dee Lowe.
Cremation was chosen following Elma's wishes and Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) was entrusted with her care. Contributions in Elma's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (6100 Dutchmans Lane, Suite 401, Louisville, KY 40205).
