Ellen Jane (Henke) Whipple
January 21, 1937 — April 13, 2017
Ellen Jane (Henke) Whipple, 80, a faithful Christian woman, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017. She was a member of the Charlestown Road Church of Christ. Ellen enjoyed nature and traveling, and also loved watching the community of southern Indiana grow.
She was born on January 21, 1937 in Shelbyville, Indiana to the late Walter and Virginia (Jones) Henke. Ellen was also preceded in death by her husband, Gerald "Gene" Whipple.
Ellen is survived by her daughter, Jeana Hillerich; grandsons, Gregory "Alan" Hillerich, Jr. (Mika), Matthew Hillerich; great-granddaughter, Audrey Hillerich; siblings, David Henke (Vicki), Sara Hodges (Harry); sister-in-law, Susan Lo (Oumar); and brother-in-law, David Whipple (Marsha).
Visitation will be from 3 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Thursday after 9 AM. Her Funeral Service will take place at 11 AM on Thursday in the chapel at the funeral home with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
Contributions in Ellen's memory may be made to the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges (535 Second New Hampshire Turnpike, Hillsboro, New Hampshire 03244).
