Elizabeth Ellen Buchanan

Elizabeth Ellen Davies Buchanan of Pleasureville, KY, age 80, went home to be with The Lord on November 4, 2016, after a long illness. Elizabeth Ellen was born February 4, 1936 in Barbourville, KY to the late Dr. Theodore R. Davies and Elizabeth Ragsdale Davies. She attended Barbourville schools and graduated Valedictorian from Barbourville High School. She graduated first in her class in Education in 1958 from the University of Kentucky. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.

She married the love of her life, Donald B. Buchanan, on June 7, 1959. Soon thereafter she joined Donald in Henry County, KY as he was establishing his farm and agribusinesses near Pleasureville, KY. Their son, Donald Davies Buchanan, was born of this union on December 28, 1960. Elizabeth settled into this community teaching in elementary schools in Henry County for fourteen plus years, until her illness precluded her continuing. She was well loved by her students, administrators, and fellow teachers. She was raised in the Methodist faith and was active in churches around Pleasureville until illness precluded active attendance. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald; father, Dr. T.R. Davies; mother, Elizabeth; and a sister, Margaret Ann Davies.

Elizabeth Ellen is survived by her husband, Donald, of Pleasureville; a sister Mary Gwyn Davies Rothenberger and spouse, Gary of Marion, IL; a brother, Dr. Theodore E. C. Davies and spouse, Debra, of Paducah, KY; daughter-in-law, Karen K. Buchanan of Louisville, KY; two grandchildren, Donald Colby Buchanan of Nashville, TN, Clair Elizabeth Kennedy and spouse Michael of Louisville, KY; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Barbourville, KY. Interment will be in the Barbourville Cemetery.
