Edward Lewis Ramsey, 75, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021. Lewis served in the U.S. Army for over 5 years. He was a member of American Legion 201 and former member of Amvets Post 9. He had the distinction of being the first African-American to be elected to an office in the Amvets Post 9.
Lewis was very proud of the Military Veterans Club of Louisville, Inc., a 501c nonprofit organization, which he founded and served as President. His M.V.C.O.L. hosted a Breakfast with Santa for years for children in the community.
Lewis worked for over 30 years for BellSouth/AT&T. He served as Union Steward for the Communication Workers for several years.
Lewis took pleasure in photography, videography, karaoke and played in a band in his younger years. He liked to travel to visit family and friends. He enjoyed organizing celebrations and parties. Lewis was a great friend, and never tired of learning and doing things himself. If he didn't know already how to do something, he studied YouTube videos to learn. He believed in following his dreams and never hesitated to try new ventures. And anyone who knew Lewis knows he always did it his way.
He was born on January 7, 1946 in Knoxville, Tennessee to James and Willie (Carter) Ramsey. He is preceded in death by his father, James C. Ramsey; daughter, Kimberly Ramsey; son, James Ramsey and brother, Charles Anderson.
Lewis is survived by his loving mother, Willie Lee Anderson; Daughters, Yurianna (Nathen) Guillory and Valerie Howard; grandchildren, Shanee (Brandon) Howard, Kim Ramsey, Donavin Guillory, Mikah Howard, Cameron Guillory, Dakotah Guillory, Rae'ven Howard, and Jessie Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Mullins, Elijiah Mullins, Naomi Mullins, Wade Guillory, Jordan Guillory, and one expectant; siblings, Jamesena Smith, Ronnie (Sheila) Ramsey, Sherri Durroh, and Dawud Bahar; uncle, Elmer (Shirley) Carter; close friends, Carolyn Walker and Mike (Carolyn) Stone. as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends to cherish his loving memory forever.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Service will be at 12:30 pm on Monday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel with burial to follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery (Central) in Radcliff, Kentucky.
