Edna Mae Cooper Messinger, 85, of Louisville, KY passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Baptist Health Louisville under Hosparus Care. She was a resident at Glen Ridge Health Campus.
Edna was born February 23, 1931, the fourth child of Preston Cooper and Charlie Mae Basham Cooper. Her childhood was spent in Vanzant, KY and Owensboro, KY before the family moved to Louisville, KY. Edna was baptized on December 12, 1943 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Edna married Ronald Messinger on April 20, 1957. They lived in Elizabethtown, KY until 2014 when they moved to Louisville to live with their daughter, son-in-law and grandson.
Edna is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ronald Messinger, of Louisville; daughter, BethAmy Miller (Gary) of Louisville; son, Shawn Messinger (Kandice) of Delaware; brother, Charles Cooper (Betty) of Florida; brother, Ray Cooper, of Florida; sister, Shirley Cooper, of Louisville; and sister, Frances Hurst, of Mt. Washington. Edna leaves behind one grandson, Isaiah Miller, of Louisville whom she loved with every fiber of her being. Edna also leaves behind nieces and nephews who were loved and cherished. Edna was preceded in death by her father, Preston Cooper; mother, Charlie Mae Basham Cooper; her 2 brothers, Hugh Cooper and Edwin Cooper; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Dunn Cooper.
A Memorial of Edna's life will be held at 3 pm Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Jeffersontown Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 4312 Billtown Road, Louisville, KY. She was cremated, so there is no burial. All are invited to attend and show their love and support to her family and friends.
