Edison (Vernon) Farmer slipped this mortal coil 08/18/21 and rejoined what he called the universal soul. Born in a log cabin in the middle of a farm field in Ohio County, KY, 01/25/43, to Jess and Floetta Farmer, Edison was a proud graduate of Male High School ('61) and University of Louisville ('70 ), which he attended on the GI bill after his service in the USAF in Vietnam and Okinawa. He was a career US Civil Service logistician for the US Army, in Virginia and Germany. He delighted to say he gardened on three continents, having lived three summers in Brazil. A throat cancer survivor, Edison succumbed to esophageal cancer, at home. A socialist and a happy warrior for peace and justice, Edison was also
a talented bird photographer and karaoke singer, living on via YouTube.
He is survived by his sister Doris Sidebottom, Lebanon Junction; daughter Kim Farmer (Mark Mordhorst) and son Satchel, Baltimore, MD; son Clay Farmer (Amanda Voelker) daughter Phoebe, Richmond, VA; and son Chris Farmer (Kimmy Certa) and children Cruxien and Anwen, Richmond, VA. Also left to mourn his passing are his partner Kate Cunningham; Karen Smith, first wife and mother of his children; and stepchildren Mitzy Maino in Portugal and Malko in Brazil.
Following Edison's wishes, his remains were cremated; there will be an informal gathering in Louisville later to celebrate his life. Memorials may be sent to St. John Center for homeless men, 700 East Muhammad Ali, 40203. "Oh, our lives are better left to chance; I could have missed the pain but I'd have had to miss the dance."
