Duane Carroll Main, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed on October 4, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on March 15, 1936, in Jackson, Michigan, Duane lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love.
A man of great achievements, Duane graduated from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1973. He made significant contributions as a Engineer, notably retiring from PAPC. During his career, he worked in the restaurant industry, lending his skills to establishments such as Burger Chef, McDonald's, Steak N Shake, and Chi Chi's. His career was a testament to his tireless work ethic, remaining diligent until he was 80 years young.
Duane proudly served in the Naval Reserves for four years, demonstrating his commitment to his country and his community. Known for his innate ability to help others, he was often seen as a true gentleman. His kindness and generosity extended to everyone he encountered, earning him the respect and admiration of those around him. Duane could fix anything, a true embodiment of a problem-solver who approached challenges with determination and skill.
In his personal life, Duane found immense joy in traveling with his adoring wife, Janet Marie Main, with whom he shared an enduring marriage of 69 years. Together, they created a lifetime of memories filled with adventure and companionship. His family, which includes his loving daughter, Lori Main Guerin, sons Daniel Main (Carole) and Kenneth A. Main (Norma), was central to his life. Duane took great pride in his granddaughters, Daniele Main, Nicole Main Long (Buki), and Elizabeth "Teddy" Guerin (Jimmy Contompasis), and delighted in the moments spent with his great-grandsons, Austin, Benjamin, and Flynn.
Duane is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Louis and Iva (Brooks) Main, as well as four siblings: Vivian Tolles, June Reynolds, Joyce Dye, and Leroy Main. He is also preceded in death by his dear son-in-law, Michael Guerin.
Remembered for his hard work, kind spirit, and unwavering love for his family, Duane Carroll Main leaves behind a legacy of compassion and dedication that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Per Duane's wishes cremation was chosen and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
