Douglas Monroe Gatrost, 80, of Corydon, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021. Douglas was a member and former minister of the Community of Christ Church in Byrneville. He was an adventurer at heart and could be found partaking in many outdoor activities. He enjoyed traveling, camping, snow skiing in his younger years, dirt biking, and hiking. He was a drummer in a band with his brothers when he was younger, was a skilled mechanic, and was quite knowledgeable around a computer. No matter what he was doing, Douglas loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog.
He was born on May 1, 1940, in Vine Grove, Kentucky, to the late Floyd and Dorothy (Peterson) Gatrost. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Ted Gatrost and Jim Gatrost.
Douglas is survived by his loving wife, Marie Gatrost; children, Stacey Gatrost, Bruce Gatrost, Brett (Sheila) Gatrost, and David (Christy) Durrett; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Janice (Tom) Swafford; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - New Albany (3309 Ballard Lane) and continue on Friday, February 12, 2021, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, his Funeral Service will be held privately with burial to follow at Wolfe Cemetery in Georgetown, Indiana.
