Over his lifetime he was a member of many organizations. He was a 55 year member and Past Master of Pewee Valley Masonic Lodge #829. He also was a District Deputy of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, and Past Worthy Patron of Fairdale Eastern Star #153. He was a member of the American Legion post #39.

Doug met the love of his life, Anne, in 1960 and they were married in Arlington, Virginia on December 2nd, 1961. They spent the next 64 years loving and happily raising a family of four children. Doug loved his family dearly and was devoted to them. He always lit up when they and the grandchildren came to visit. He felt that being a husband, father, and grandfather was his calling.
