Dorothy "Dott" Berry, 81, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2019.
She was born on July 19, 1938 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Edward and Lillian (Schuermeyer) Tilley.
Dott grew up in St Matthews and attended Greathouse Elementary and Eastern High School. In 1960 she earned her bachelor's degree in Science from the University of Louisville. Dott held various managerial positions and started several entrepreneurial ventures over her long working career.
Early on she ran the lab for U of L Hospital and eventually setup a lab in her home, performing blood work for several local doctor's offices. In the late 1970's and early 80's she wrote grants and started and managed several programs for the Metro Louisville Corrections Department. In 1985 she started a very successful business called Insurance Career Development (ICD). ICD prepared insurance agents and financial advisors to take the state life and health exam. She also conducted continuing education classes. Dott had exceptional teaching skills, boasting an 99% pass rate for her students.
Dott loved to travel and took her mother and children to almost every city in Florida, and some multiple times. She also took her family on many vacations to New Orleans, the Bahamas and Gatlinburg. Dott was a very devoted grandmother to her three granddaughters. She was very instrumental raising them into high-performing, independent young ladies.
Dott was a huge basketball fan and loved watching both U of L and U of K (probably a little more blue than red). Dott was a woman of faith and was very involved in her church, St Marks Episcopal Church on Frankfort Avenue. Dott was a high energy and positive contributor to her family and community. She will be greatly missed by all.
Dott is survived by her son, Ray Berry, daughter-in-law Michelle, daughter, Ann Berry, three granddaughters; Taylor, Holly and Anna Berry.
Per the family's wishes, cremation was chosen and there will be a celebration of Dott's life held at a later date.
