Dorothy Jean (Hampton) Stonecipher, 71, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Dorothy was born on November 5, 1954, and throughout her life, she touched the hearts of many. She was a longtime employee at Providence Retirement Home, where her caring nature and work ethic made a positive difference each day for both residents and colleagues. Dorothy was known for her kindness and steadfast support of those around her, values drawn from her deep Pentecostal faith. An active member of Harvest Temple Mission, she found fulfillment and community through her church, shaping her spirit of generosity and encouragement.
Dorothy had a special place in her heart for simple joys and cherished traditions. She delighted in playing BUNCO with her girlfriends, where laughter and camaraderie filled their gatherings. She enjoyed working on crosswords, challenging her mind and savoring moments of quiet reflection. In her leisure hours, Dorothy also found joy in following her favorite soap operas, adding another layer of enjoyment to her days.
Central to Dorothy’s life was her role as “Granny.” She took immense pride and joy in her family, and her love for her grandchildren was evident to all who knew her. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Melissa Stonecipher (fiancé, Mark Storms); her grandchildren, Kiersten Hash, Brooklyn Blavat, Brianna Stonecipher, Haley Stonecipher, and Kayla Stonecipher; and her niece, Louisa Huffman.
She is preceded in death by her father, William Hampton; her mother, Shirley (Huffman) Hampton; her son, John Stonecipher Jr.; her brother, Verle Huffman; her sister, Alice Hampton; and her dear friend and companion, John Alford Sr.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane) and continue on Wednesday morning after 9:00 a.m. Her funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Crossroads Cemetery in Mauckport, Indiana.
