Dorothy Patterson

May 18, 1929 — May 31, 2025

Louisville, KY

Dorothy Jean Patterson, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 96. She was born on May 18, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Cecil and Nellie (Combs) Winter. Dorothy led a life filled with love, kindness, and an unwavering spirit that touched everyone she met.

A proud graduate of Normandy High School in St. Louis, Dorothy carried the values of hard work and dedication into her professional life, where she worked as a bookkeeper for several companies throughout her career. Her meticulous nature was matched only by her outgoing and fun-loving personality, which endeared her to colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dorothy was a devoted family woman who cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. She was deeply involved in her community as a Girl Scout Leader and embraced family traditions, enjoying activities such as camping, boating, and fishing with her husband. Dorothy’s love for travel created beautiful memories as she explored new places with her family.

As an independent and spirited individual, Dorothy found joy in playing a variety of card games and nurtured a special bond with her beloved dogs. Her zest for life resonated with those around her, fostering lasting connections and friendships.

Dorothy is survived by her loving daughters, Bethany Ingram and Laura Jean Childress; her grandchildren, Daniel Clayton (April), Sarah Bryan (Joshua), David Clayton, Jacqueline "Jackie" Ramos (Michael), Derek Ingram (Shelby), and Ryan Ingram; as well as her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Clayton.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William F. Patterson; her daughter, Catherine Clayton; and her sons-in-law, James Creed Clayton, Mark Ingram and William Childress. Dorothy’s legacy will live on through the love and memories she created with her family and friends.
