Dorothy Cannon

March 1, 1927 — May 17, 2021

Dorothy Lamb Cannon, 94, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021.

She was born on March 1, 1927 in Honolulu, Hawaii to the late Peter and Jamesina (Calligan) Lamb. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Victor Cannon.

Dorothy was the daughter of Scottish immigrants who moved to Honolulu in the 1920s and were among many from Scotland who immigrated there in the early part of the 20th century. Dorothy and her family witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and spent much of the World War II years volunteering for the war effort, which included attending events for the servicemen at her church, Central Union. WWII changed the trajectory of her life as she met her future husband, Victor, who was stationed in Honolulu and who she met at one of the church events.

Dorothy and Victor were married in 1946 and moved to Kentucky, where they made their home and raised a family. Dorothy was a member of Beargrass Christian Church and was a retired real estate agent with Rainey Jones and Associates. She was one of the first women to be elected to the board of elders at Beargrass. Recently, she and Victor were honored with emeritus status by the church for their contributions and support over sixty plus years of membership and service to the church.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Alison) Cannon, Lori Cannon Spragens, Julie Cannon Andersen; six grandchildren, Stewart Spragens, Peter Cannon, Paige Spragens, Paul Andersen, Ben Cannon and Ashley Andersen, one great-grandson William Andersen and sister, Isobel Ryan.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday June 5, 2021 at Beargrass Christian Church (4100 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, KY 40207) with visitation and a reception to follow from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

The family requests that contributions in Dorothy's memory be made to Beargrass Christian Church.
