Dorothy "Dottie" Brown-Reed was born March 5th, 1947 in Brooklyn New York to Massie and Freddy Smith. Dottie's received her formal education in Brooklyn. During her high school years, she met and married Winfred Jesse Brown. From that union Dottie gave birth to three sons and a daughter, Jesse, Winfred, Derrick and Tanya.
In 1988 while working at Columbian Presbyterian. Dottie was offered a life changing opportunity to relocate with the job to Louisville, KY. Dottie fearlessly jumped at a chance to improve her life and her family's life.
It was in Louisville at the Kingdom Hall she met Charles Reed. They married in 2003
Charles was her rock until he made his journey home in 2009. If you paid close attention there was always something to learn from Dottie, because of her beliefs and strength she never gave up or felt defeated. Against most odds she always moved forward. Her love, commitment and compassion for her family was always unconditional, her love was always certain. It never matter to her how little she may have had, she never hesitated to share with family in need. Her heart was so big at times because she always saw that little glimmer of light in those that couldn't see their own light. Dottie would never give up on those she loved. Never holding a grudge. If Dottie loved you it was with her entire being and heart.
Preceding her in death is her mother and father Massie and Freddy Smith, two sisters Barbara and Mary Alice, two brothers, Robert and Stanley, her first husband, Winfred Jesse Brown and her second husband Charles Reed.
She leaves to morn her children, Jesse and wife Yvette, Winfred and wife Charlene, Derrick and Tanya, two brothers, David and Charles, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces and friends whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Louisville, (235 Juneau Drive). Her Funeral Service will be at 12:30 pm on Monday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Louisville with burial to follow at New Albany National Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.
