Doris Jean Powers, aged 90, of Louisville, Kentucky, Peacefully departed this life on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Born on October 1, 1934, in Panther, Kentucky, Doris lived a life rich with love and dedication.
A proud graduate and Valedictorian of West Louisville High School, Doris's journey led her to meet and marry the love of her life, Jerry Powers. Together, they nurtured a warm and loving home for their three beautiful children. Embracing her role as homemaker, Doris was affectionately known as the "Domestic Goddess," delighting in the art of sewing, flower arranging, and cooking, all while exuding a flair for fashion. She was also an avid UK Basketball fan. The holiday season brought her particular joy, as her creative spirit shone brightest through her festive decorations—Christmas was truly her favorite time of year.
As a devout Baptist, Doris was a cherished member of the Woodland Baptist Church for over 50 years, where her faith flourished and her community thrived. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Jerry, her parents, four siblings, and her great-granddaughter, Jane Secrest, Doris's legacy is imbued with love and compassion.
She is survived by her devoted children: Cindy Moser (Bob) of Louisville, KY; Keith Powers (Anda) of Rancho Mirage, CA; and Kimberly Neubauer (John) of Lake Martin, AL. Additionally, she leaves behind her sister, Vaneda Bates, of Owensboro, KY, as well as three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever cherish her memory in their hearts.
A visitation to honor Doris's life will be held on Saturday, October 19, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, East Chapel, located at 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243. A private entombment will take place on Monday, October 21, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Samaritan's Purse at [www.SamaritansPurse.org].
Doris Jean Powers leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and creativity that will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her.
