Doris A. Costelle

Doris A. (Kruer) Costelle, was born on March 23, 1940, and passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, surrounded by the warmth of her loving family. Doris lived a life rich in love and faith, marked prominently by her deep-rooted Catholic beliefs. A longtime member of St. Joe Hill and St. John Paul II Catholic Church, she cherished her role within that community and engaged in numerous aspects of church life, nurturing her spiritual growth and that of those around her.

Doris will be remembered as a devoted mother to her children, Richard (Jonathan) Costelle Jr., Gary (Melanie) Costelle, Doug (Cathy) Costelle, Kelly (Troy) McCutcheon, and Karen (Eric) Sonne. Her favorite activities included playing cards with friends and family, working with family on the farm, and nurturing plants and flowers at Grant Line Garden Center. The bond she shared with her grandchildren-Devan (Ricardo) Espindola, Sloane (Hunter) Norton, Chris (Audrie) Costelle, Jeremy Costelle, Anna Costelle, Kalyn Sonne, and Carson Sonne-was a source of great joy, as she reveled in their achievements and milestones. Doris was also a proud great-grandmother to Noah Grace, embracing this role with the same love and warmth that characterized her life.

Doris was part of a large family and is survived by her siblings: Evelyn Lilly, Merle (Dorothy) Kruer, James (Betty) Kruer, Norman (Kathy) Kruer, Patsy (Jim) Nett, Jean (Paul) Schellenberger, and Cheryl (Jim) Book; as well as her sister-in-law, Judy Ann Kruer. They were all witnesses to her spirit of generosity and commitment to family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose Kruer Sr. and Mary Rose Schmidt Kruer; her beloved husband, Richard Costelle Sr.; her siblings, Ambrose "Buddy" Kruer Jr., Carolyn Holden, Janice Kruer, and Kevin Marie Kruer; and her brothers-in-law, Gene Lilly and Joel Holden.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, May 12, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Visitation will continue on Tuesday, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Joe Hill Chapel (2605 W St Joe Rd, Sellersburg, IN). Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am on Tuesday, at the chapel with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
