Doris Lee Buchheit, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Louisville community, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on February 17, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Raymond and Margaret (Roehrig) Fultz, Doris’s life was a beautiful journey marked by love, laughter, and devotion to her family.
For many years, Doris was a devoted stay-at-home mom, dedicated to raising her children with warmth and care. Once her children were grown, she continued to share her nurturing spirit while working at Bethany Methodist Daycare. Doris’s kindness and gentle heart made a lasting impression on all the children she cared for.
Doris embraced life with a sense of adventure and joy. She loved to travel, gathering stories and memories along the way. Known for her playful spirit, she delighted in playing BINGO and bunco, and enjoyed the vibrant community gatherings with family and friends. One of her favorite annual events was Thunder Over Louisville, a celebration that brought her great joy. Above all, Doris cherished spending time with her grandchildren, sharing her great sense of humor and warmth.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Margaret Fultz, and her siblings, Frank Fultz, Helen Oaks, and Robert Fultz. Doris’s legacy of love lives on through her devoted husband of 69 years, Donald Buchheit, Sr., her children – Donald Buchheit, Jr., Margaret (Robert) Kaiser, Gervase (Mica) Buchheit, Karen (Sam) Fraze, Catherine (Karl Bloomberg) Adkins, and Frank (Karen) Buchheit – and a growing family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her memory will forever be treasured by a wide circle of family and friends who were blessed to know her.
A visitation to honor Doris’s life will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions – Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy. Her funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm on Friday at the same chapel, with burial at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Louisville.
In remembrance of Doris’s compassionate spirit, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Kentucky School for the Blind. Friends and loved ones are invited to share memories or leave messages of sympathy in the guestbook, preserving the heartfelt legacy of a truly extraordinary woman.
Doris Lee Buchheit’s life was a beautiful testament to love, family, and joy—she will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
