Doris Faye (Shaffer) Blair, passed away on May 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and a genuine love for serving others. She was born on May 19, 1932 in Elizabeth, Indiana.
Throughout her career, Doris found joy and purpose in roles that allowed her to connect with her community. She was lovingly remembered for her years as a crossing guard at S. Ellen Jones School, where her special way with children made her a cherished figure in the neighborhood. In addition to her role at the school, Doris contributed her care in janitorial services and worked as a greeter at Meijer, always bringing warmth and friendliness to those she encountered.
Doris’s dedication to others was not confined to her professional life; she was a wonderful caregiver and nurturer who impacted her family and friends deeply. She is survived by her son, Melvin Blair (Shirley), as well as her grandson, Matthew Blair. Doris held a special place in her heart for her nephews, Roger (Norleen) Shaffer and Ronnie (Jane) Shaffer, whom she regarded as sons. Her siblings, Virgil Shaffer, Marilyn (John) White, and Carolyn (Dale) Miller, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, also remember her with affection and respect.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Shaffer and Anna Langenberg Shaffer; and her siblings, Herman Lewis, Mary Daugherty, Carl Shaffer, and Merle Shaffer.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and will continue on Saturday, May 30, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
