Listen to Obituary
Doris Ann Sistrunk was born on July 12, 1946, to the union of the late Lesile "Blue" Sistrunk and Lucille Sistrunck, in Louisville, Kentucky. She departed this life on Monday, December 20, 2014 at 9:30 p.m., and went to her heavenly home to be with the Lord.

Doris was the oldest of seven children. She is survived by two brothers, Leon "Babo" and Roscoe "Nukie", and two sisters, Gail Senter, Valery "Tina" Bellamy. Two brothers preceded her in death; Glen and Keith Sistrunk.

As a youth, she attended Louisville Public Schools; DuValle Junior High School and Louisville Central High School. She attended Jefferson Community College where she obtained an Associates Degree in Psychology. Unfortunately, at an early age, she suffered the passing of her mother, and took on the role of raising her sisters and brothers. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Marrs Memorial Baptist Church.

In 1965, she married the late Lewis D. Steavison who affectionately assisted her in raising her brothers and sisters, and her young daughter, Celestine Lavern. To this union, one daughter was born, Andrea. They shared many good years until his passing. During this marriage, she took on the role as loving stepmother to his children. In later years, she remarried Mr. Van Ashmore, and again, took on the role as a stepmother to Giovinni "Gigi" Ashmore. She was employed at Norton Hospital as a psychiatric tech for the children's ward, and later, she worked at Fawcett Haynes Company.

In 1982, she became a faithful member of Massie Zion Baptist Church. She had a great love for her church. She was very dedicated in performing numerous fundraisers to assist in it's growth in various areas. She worked diligently on the building fund, the church bus fund, and numerous activities for the congregation. Upon the transition of the church from Massie Zion to New Covenant Baptist, she had great conviction to God for the growth and prosperity of her church. Doris was a great support to the late Rev. J.R. Sams and the first lady of New Covenant, and continued her support in every way.

Doris was a dedicated and family oriented person. After the passing of her brothers, she was a great support to her numerous nieces and nephews. She had a great love for her many, many cousins and other family members. Then she became the proud and protected grandmother, and later on, great-grandmother of the little people. She was the pillar of the family who will be greatly missed.

Doris will always be known for her sense of style and grace. She was a kind and loving person, she touched the hearts of many. She was a rock when you needed one, and a friend to all she met. A beautiful woman, she carried herself with class and poise, and did so gracefully.

Doris leaves behind many to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy of love. She leaves behind her step-mother, Sadie Sistrunk; two sisters, Valery Bellamy and Gail Senter, two brothers; Leon and Roscoe (Sukies) Sistrunk, three step-sisters; Lisa, Faye and Suzie, two step-brothers; Harold Welch and Ricky Welch, two daughters; Celestine Woodson and Andrea Steavison-Johnson, three step-daughters; Cheryl, Veronica and Greta Fitzpatrick, and one step-son, Ronald Fitzpatrick. She also leaves five grandchildren; Ana Grace, Kevin, Jr., Andre, Sr., Tyler Woodson and Mikyle Johnson; ten great-grandchildren (one preceded her in death), a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of cousins and friends. Last but not least, Dodies Rodys Margaret Brown.
