Doris Jean Boylan Adkins

August 2, 1937 — February 9, 2022

Doris Jean Boylan Adkins, 84 years old, passed away at home and left us to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Doris was born to parents Charles and Virginia Boylan, August 21, 1937 in Owensboro, KY and was relocated to Louisville, KY when she was only 6 years old. She met her beloved husband, Benjamin H. Adkins Sr., over 6 decades ago, and recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in the home they built together for their families in Charlestown, Indiana. They joined together in marriage, Eugene Hinderer II (Gina), Eric Hinderer (LeAnn), Jan Lauri Adkins, James Adkins, Samantha Adkins, and Danielle Adkins. Doris's grandchildren, Eugene Hinderer III (Marisa), Jared Hinderer, Brandon Hinderer (Elizabeth), Erica Madison (Michael), Mallory Cappelli (Adam), Sarah Greco (Nathan), Andrea Clark (Michael), Chase Hinderer, Jamie Hinderer, Natali Clemons (Matthew), Curtis Hardin, Robert Hardin, James Duncan, Robert Twyman, Lance Cox, Rachel Norris (Anthony), Arthur Kennedy, Zachary Adkins, Joseph Cahill, Colin Adkins, and countless great-grandchildren all will miss her. Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Boylan and Virginia Smith Boylan; her step-children, Benjamin "Benji" H Adkins Jr., and Lois L Adkins.

Doris was a fierce woman – holding fast to her beliefs, a giver in all things to anyone who was in need, offering wisdom from her life experiences, and athletic until arthritis would not allow her any longer. She was a Shawnee High School graduate, where she played multiple sports and later earned trophies for golf, a hole in one during a tournament, and countless bowling awards. One of her passions throughout life was painting and drawing, where she studied Art at University of Louisville. Doris later became an Executive Secretary to multiple business presidents, and ended her career as the Vice President of Adkins Export Packing and Machinery Movers Inc. Because of her knowledge and experience, Doris was on the Board of Directors of A Main Street Industrial Park Inc., even after retirement. She became a Kentucky Colonel in 2002 and assisted with the movement of the current location of the Louisville Slugger Bat in downtown Louisville.

While Doris was proud of her accomplishments, her proudest was of her family, something she would boast about with anyone who met her and often left her feeling like she was now their grandma too. She spent every summer at Disney World with her children and grandchildren, and loved every minute of it. She molded any heart near her to accept, feel and learn the actions of love, and there is no better feeling after being around Doris who loved unconditionally. No judgement, no stress, just warmth and love. She was a strong woman of faith and was a member at North Charlestown Church of God for over 25 + years, where she also held a position on the Board of Directors for 12 + years. Because of her faith in the Lord, we are coming together for her celebration of life .
