Colleen Ernspiker, lovingly known to many as Colleen, passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born Donna Colleen Smith on July 27, 1961, in Louisville, Kentucky, she spent her life bringing warmth and kindness to everyone she met.
A proud graduate of North Hardin High School, Class of 1979, Colleen developed early on a deep dedication to service, compassion, and care for others. Her professional life was defined by more than two decades as a Dietary Manager at the Episcopal Church Home, where she worked tirelessly and with integrity, touching countless lives with her professionalism, wit, and generosity.
Those who knew Colleen remember her as very kind, witty, generous, and always caring. Her bright presence lifted spirits, her gentle humor brought smiles, and her boundless generosity supported friends, family, and colleagues alike. She had a deep fondness for cooking and found joy in providing meals for others, often weaving love into every dish she made. Colleen also cherished her time reading, enjoying the comfort and laughter of sitcoms, and sharing her days with her beloved dogs and cats. Adventures called her often, whether she was embarking on vacations, discovering new places through travel, or delighting in the simple pleasure of shopping.
Above all else, Colleen’s proudest accomplishment was her daughter, Danielle Ernspiker (David), who survives her and carries forward her legacy of love and kindness. Colleen’s family also includes her devoted siblings: Eric Smith and Kevin Smith, her brothers, and Sharon Smith, her sister, along with her step-father, Harold Smith (Anna). She was predeceased by her loving husband, Gary Ernspiker, and her parents, Samuel Smith and Donna Smith.
The absence Colleen leaves is felt deeply by all who shared in her humor, wisdom, and unwavering support. She was a steadfast friend, a devoted sister, a loving daughter, and above all, a remarkable mother.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Colleen’s life at the Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, on August 6, 2026. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life beginning at 4:00 p.m., at 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243.
