Donald Vincent Pinto

Louisville - Donald Vincent "Opa" Pinto passed away Monday, April 15, 2024. He was born in Akron, Ohio on August 15, 1932, eldest son of Donald Anthony "Tony" Pinto and Helen (Hope) Pinto.

He graduated from St. Vincent High School and joined his father as a plumber's apprentice after high school.

He was called into military service for the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and served as a Marine Security Guard stationed at the Austrian Embassy in Vienna, Austria. It was during this service that he met and married his wife, Emilie (Cervenka) Pinto and they had 54 years together before her passing in 2010.

Following his discharge from the Marine Corps, he attended a Polytechnic Academy in London, England and upon returning to the United States, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Science from the University of Akron. In 1970, he earned his MBA from the University of Louisville.

Don was brought to Louisville for an Engineering position at G.E. Appliance Park. He was a licensed Engineer in 4 states and after his tenure at G.E., he was employed by Bechtel Engineering, Construction & Project Management for over 20 years, including 16 years in Saudi Arabia, part of the team constructing the airports in Jeddah and Riyadh.

He is survived by his brother Jerry Pinto (Marie Keith) of Akron, Ohio; his children Emilie Pinto-Schmeling (Forest Schmeling), Robert A. Pinto (Deborah) and Debra J. Pinto all of Louisville. He also leaves grandchildren Michael, Connor and Trevor Pinto of Louisville, Ryan Palmer of Louisville and McKenzie Schmeling of Brooklyn, NY; his cousin, Ronnie Pinto of Akron, Ohio, and nephews Jerry Pinto (Carol) of Phoenix, AZ and Mark Pinto (Amy) of Akron, Ohio.

Don was a member of the St. Bernard Parish & YMCA and enjoyed golf, square dancing, poker, chess and reading history novels.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243 from 4-6 pm followed by a Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the "Wounded Warrior Project" are appreciated.
