Donald Ray Lucas, 74, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Don was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of the Kosair Shriners and Masonic Lodges in Louisville. Don was the past president of the Kosair Sand Bugs in 2001 and a member of the American Legion Post 204 in Sellersburg. He attended Sellersburg United Methodist Church. He was a painter by trade and a member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT). Don loved fishing, the Dallas Cowboys, tending his garden, and his canine companion, Lucy.
He was born on November 28, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Leonard and Lilly (Arney) Lucas. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Marie Lucas; sister, Theresa Whitworth; and brother, Leonard Lucas III.
Don was a loving husband to Regina Lucas; loving Daddy to Ray (Meredith) Lucas, Shelly Stutzman, Travis (Jessi) Lucas, and John (Kathryn) Young; brother to Sharon (Robert) Holbert, Linda Faye (Steve) Witzer, Mary (Ron) Taylor, Phillip (Cheryl) Lucas, and Phyllis (Hank) Moore; brother-in-law to David Whitworth and Linda Lucas; loving Papaw to Olivia, Eli, Sam, Jack, Kaela (Kyle),Victoria, Jackson, Julie, Samantha, Katie, Hunter, Matthew, Avery, and Evan; and loving great-papaw to Macy, Isaac, Sawyer, Harper, Jameson, and Rhett.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery.
