Donald "Don" Hitchcock

Donald "Don" Hitchcock, beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, at the age of 77. Born February 7, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky, Don grew up in the heart of a close-knit family, forging a path through life with an unforgettable sense of humor and an open-hearted love for all those around him.

Don was the cherished son of the late Emmalee and Ronald Hitchcock, whose memory he carried with him every day. He was also preceded in death by his sister Ronda Netara, whose absence he felt deeply. Don is survived by a devoted family who loved him fiercely: his son Chad Hitchcock (Kim), his sisters Sharon Boerste, Susan Hines, Pam Balcom (Tony), and Lisa Hitchcock, as well as his brothers David Hitchcock, Jerry Hitchcock (Cathy), and Jeff Hitchcock (Kim), his granddaughters Lindsey Kempf and Lauren Kempf, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. 

From his earliest years, Don carved out a life filled with hard work, loyalty, and laughter. He began his professional journey as a factory worker at Phillip Morris, demonstrating steadfast dedication and a tireless work ethic. After departing Phillip Morris, Don embraced a new adventure on the open road, obtaining his Commercial Driver’s License and embarking on a remarkable career as an over-the-road truck driver for more than three decades. Through countless miles and endless horizons, Don’s commitment provided for those he loved and gave him a unique window to the world.

Known for his quick wit and irresistible sense of humor, Don was the heart of many gatherings, ever the jokester who could lift spirits and ease burdens with a well-timed laugh. He was a true animal lover—never turning away from those with fur or feathers who needed a friend. Don’s home was always filled with the echoes of Eagles music, as he found comfort in his favorite tunes and the nostalgic sounds of classic rock.

Don’s passion for life extended beyond his work and into his hobbies. He was an avid golfer whose skill on the course was admired by many—never more so than the day he scored that elusive hole-in-one, a feat commemorated by his proud brother Jerry with a plaque and Don’s winning ball. Many afternoons were spent enjoying Louisville Redbird Baseball games with his son Chad, forging memories that neither would forget. Always a devoted sports fan, Don cheered on the Kentucky Wildcats, sharing the highs and lows of each season with those who loved to watch alongside him.

Television nights at Don’s house were a well-loved tradition, especially when M*A*S*H, Gunsmoke, or The Rockford Files were on—shows that made him laugh, think, and remember days gone by.

Don’s spirit was shaped not only by the joys and triumphs of his life, but also by the deep affection he poured into every relationship. His legacy will live on in the smiles of everyone who remembers his jokes, in memories of his music drifting into a summer evening, and in the embrace of his loving family and friends.

To honor his life, visitation will be held on July 27, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272. A funeral service will follow on July 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the same location.

Though Don has departed from this world, his laughter, warmth, and unwavering love will linger long in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
