Donald "Don" Gentry, a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man, passed away on February 21, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on September 17, 1940, in Campbellsville, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Virgil and Martha (Merritt) Gentry.
Don dedicated over 50 years of his life to Queens Group Printing, where he became well-known for his work ethic and dedication. His contributions to the printing industry were commendable, and he left a lasting impression on his colleagues and clients alike.
A man of many interests, Don was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He found immense joy in watching Jeopardy with his family, where his love of knowledge often shone through. His passion for reading—especially history and military books—was a testament to his inquisitive nature. Don also enjoyed the thrill of gambling, often indulging in betting on horses, slots, lotteries, and trips to Las Vegas. He and his beloved wife shared many wonderful memories on cruises, exploring the world together.
Don's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his surviving loved ones, including his children: Vicki Buckley, Donna Gentry, Lisa (James) Schneider, Ronald Gentry, and Shannon (Jimmy) Durrum. He is also survived by his step-children Doug Henon and Heidi Anderson, along with his grandchildren: Teasha (Charles) Davis, Elizabeth (Jesse) Baker, Greggory Gentry, Catherine (David) Hughes, Andrew Schneider, Laura and Jonathan Gentry, Garrett Kays, Addison Durrum, and Matthew and Sage Henon. His legacy continues through his four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Sebastian, Ryleigh, and Miles.
Don is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 37 years, Shelia Gentry, whose memory he cherished. He also joins in passing his four brothers: Joseph, Virgil, Billy, and Chester Gentry; his sister, Doris Darnell; several other half-siblings; his step-son, Matthew Henon; son-in-law, Randy Buckley; and step-grandson, Dylan Anderson.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243).
