Donald J. Biere, 83, passed away on January 2020, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital, after a struggle with Alzheimer's and pneumonia. He was a US Army veteran, retired as Chief Warrant Officer 5 in 1998, and had served in Special Forces 12th Battalion.
He was charming, handsome, and a great friend. We are comforted in the knowledge that he now remembers all the good times and knows how much he was loved.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Linda Lynch Biere; and his four children, Rob Gibson Karen), Grand Rapids, MI., Susan Rieger (Rick) Sagle, ID., CSM Michael Biere, Yorktown, VA. and Michelle Biere, Hitchcock, Tx; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; two stepson,: David Hermann, Cambridge, MA. and Michael Hermann, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; and two brothers, Chuck Bauland (Nora), Fairfax VA. and Ronald Bauland (Colleen) of Holtsville, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert O. Biere and Edna Mueller, and infant brother Robert.
Don spent 43 years in the US Army, and was highly regarded by his superiors and all who knew him. He was a good friend, a wonderful husband, and caring father. His disdain for American beer was well known, and he loved to learn about European beer, and share that knowledge with his companions.
Before Alzheimer's began to take its toll, he was cheerful, accepting, and still charming.
After entering Sunrise Senior Living, he quickly ingratiated himself with the caregivers, and continued to tell his wife that she was beautiful and that he loved her.
Caregivers at Sunrise, Jessica, Brandie, Mia, Evelyn, Mike, Kelly, Tammie, nurses Janice, Elaine, and Jessica all did their best to make his stay there as pleasant as possible.
Visitation will be 2 to 8 pm on Monday, January 13, 2020 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY (in Middletown). A celebration of Donald's life will be 11 am Tuesday, January 14th at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 2pm at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY.
