Don Butts, 88, passed away on July 26, 2026. He was born on November 4, 1937 in Cornith, MS to Rev. Stanton Murphy Butts and Nell Jernigan Butts.
Don graduated from Central High School in Jackson, MS in 1955. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and played his trumpet in the Navy Band. From there he went on to college and graduated from San Diego State University where he majored in Engineering. After graduation he travelled the country as a contract engineer for several years, then took a permanent position at General Electric Aircraft Engines in Lynn, Massachusetts as a heat transfer engineer. In 1994, Don transferred to GE's Appliance Park and worked in Refrigeration until he retired in 2003.
When not working, he could be found playing tennis which was his passion. He was a life time member of the USTA. Travelled the southern district to play in tournaments in other states. He also belonged to several leagues here in Louisville.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rev. Clovis Butts; sister, Martha Ann Butts McCarter; and his brother, George Martin Butts. Here to carry on his memory are his wife of 36 years, Linda Butts; and his two brothers, Charlie (Nita) Butts and Benny (Kate) Butts.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude and appreciation to his hospice team from Louisville Hosparus who provided loving care.
A visitation will take place from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm on Monday, August 3rd at Newcomer East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive). There will be a service to celebrate Don's life beginning at 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
