Dewey Delmer Minton Sr., a devoted family man and a deeply faithful community member, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana. Born on September 25, 1936, in Horse Branch, Kentucky, Dewey lived a life marked by dedication, faith, and heartfelt commitment to those he loved.
A proud graduate of Horse Branch High School in Horse Branch, Kentucky, Dewey honored his roots throughout his life. His career spanned an impressive 40 years at General Electric, with the last several years as Chairman of the IUE Conference Board, where his unwavering dedication and integrity earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers alike.
On January 23, 1955, Dewey married the love of his life, Barbara. Together, they were blessed with two children and built a family legacy rooted in love, support, and shared joy. Family was the cornerstone of Dewey’s life, and he found profound happiness and pride in spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His grandchildren were the highlight of his life, bringing him immense joy and a deep sense of fulfillment.
Dewey was a man of strong faith, proud of his spiritual journey and his role as a deacon at Dover Chapel General Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. His commitment to his church was evident not only in his leadership but also in his enjoyment of church activities. He was well known for his warm spirit and was cherished in his community for living out his beliefs with sincerity and kindness.
A passionate UK Wildcat fan, Dewey also loved participating in church softball and treasured family vacations, especially those spent at the beach. These moments of leisure were opportunities for laughter, bonding, and creating lasting memories with those closest to him.
Dewey is survived by his beloved wife Barbara Minton; his son Dewey (Donna) Minton, Jr.; his daughter Pam (Mike) Nevin; grandchildren, Matthew (Patricia) Minton, Michael Minton, Nathan (Ashley) Nevin, and Katlin Orr; and great-grandchildren Louise Minton, Otis Minton, Ralph Minton, Lincoln Orr, Cruz Nevin, and Andi Nevin. He is also remembered fondly by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by his generous heart and steadfast friendship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dillard and Pearl Minton, and his siblings.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Lane in New Albany, Indiana. This will be followed by a funeral service at 12:45 p.m. with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West in Louisville, Kentucky.
