Derrick Keith Jackson 48, was born on May 7, 1966 in Fort Knox, Kentucky to Robert and Elizabeth Jackson. Derrick started his education in the Jefferson County School system; however when he was 7 years old the family moved to New Haven, Ct. At the age of 10 years old the family returned to Louisville where he continued his education and graduated from Fern Creek High School.
Derrick worked as a chef in Atlanta, Georgia, Baltimore, Maryland and across the city of Louisville, including cooking with friends at the Seelbach and the Brown Hotel. He made several appearances on Great Day Live, WHAS 11. He served diligently through the community with his cooking classes and started a scholarship fund for the youth who desired to pursue a career in culinary arts. On February 19, 2015, while surrounded by his family, the Lord called Derrick home. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Larry Jackson and sisters, Monica and Jennifer Jackson.
He is survived by his children, sons, Derrick and Dont'a McAtee, daughters, Ashley McAtee and Kayla Jackson; grandchildren, Keivonna, Nathaniel, Tyjuan, Jr. Tristan, Treyton, Darian and Charity; sisters, Robbie Mae (Alvin) Addison, Pamela (Roderick) Allen, Robin and Kim Jackson; brothers, Eric (Crystal) Jackson, and Stacey (Mia) Osborn, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, February 27, 2015 at his church Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church (2600 Virginia Avenue, Louisville, KY). A celebration of Derrick's life will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church.
He will be remembered for his kind soul and always making the conversation about you.
