Dennis Parks Whittington

Dennis Parks Whittington, age 70, of Louisville KY, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 from Parkinson's Disease and dementia complications. Dennis was born July 2, 1951 in Lenoir, NC. Having spent a long career in journalism, Dennis was an avid newspaper reader and an expert on political history. Dennis was married for 39 years to the love of his life, Dr. Denise M. Cumberland. With his wife he raised two independent, creative, and compassionate children. His daughter, Megan Schaefer (Matt) blessed him with a beautiful granddaughter, Mattie Faye. His son, Ryan Whittington, who resides in Pittsburgh, PA, retains his dad's love of all things North Carolina. He is survived by his sister, Pamela Sanders and brother-in-law, Roger and he is preceded in death by his parents, Parks and Faye Whittington. His visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Chapel (235 Juneau Drive) on Sunday, April 3rd from 1 to 5 pm with a memorial service following at 5 pm.
