Listen to Obituary

Dennis Michael Pierce, 61, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Dennis Michael Pierce, affectionately known by many as “DP” or “Big D,” passed away on August 1, 2026. He was born on April 11, 1965, in Louisville, Kentucky, a city that remained dear to his heart throughout his life.

From an early age, Dennis demonstrated an abiding passion for sports and fitness-a drive that guided both his pursuits and his character. A proud 1983 graduate of Saint X and later, from the University of Louisville, he built a life firmly rooted in the values of dedication and perseverance.

Dennis earned a revered place in the softball community. In recognition of his outstanding achievements and unwavering commitment, he was inducted into the Kentucky Softball Hall of Fame in 2015 and, later, the Legends of the Game in 2021. On the field, Dennis was unmistakable-always donning the #44 jersey, a symbol as iconic as his presence. His pride in his Riverside Paving Softball team, and numerous other teams over his career, was second only to the admiration and camaraderie he cultivated among his teammates and friends.

Off the field, Dennis could often be found supporting his favorite teams: the Detroit Tigers, the U of L Cardinals, and Raiders football. His enthusiasm for the game was eclipsed only by the joy he took in sharing it with others. Friends recall his competitive spirit and remember loving not only playing with him, but against him as well.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Pierce and Kathleen DeVary Pierce; and his sister, Denise Pierce.

Dennis is survived by his loving son, Peyton Pierce; and his cousins that held a special place in his heart.
