Dennis J. Keller, 89 of Louisville, KY died February 5th, 2015 in Owensboro,KY. Mr. Keller was born in Ferdinand, IN, but the family moved to Jasper, IN when he was two months old. He was the son of the late Oscar & Irene (Metzger) Keller. Mr. Keller was a veteran of WWII, serving in France, Belgium and Germany. He graduated from Jasper High School and attended Kings College, Newcastle-on-Tyne, England. Following service he was the owner of a package drug store in Jasper. However, his creativity led him to the radio broadcasting field. He served as General Manager or owner of stations in Jasper, Brazil, Madison, IN and Owensboro, KY. Later he served as Vice President of membership for the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. He began his retirement years on a part time basis with the Kentucky Association of Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Group in membership. Upon full retirement he was awarded lifetime membership in this organization and the Owensboro Association did likewise. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Germany Guild of the Glenmary nuns, American Legion and VFW. He was a charter member of the Jasper, IN Jaycees, and was the last living member. He served as President of the Jasper Chamber of Commerce and later as a board member of the Owensboro Chamber of Commerce. He was a founder and first Secretary-Treasurer of the International Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives and awarded lifetime membership. He also served as President of the Owensboro Southtown Kiwanis Club, and was also a founder of the Jasper, IN unit of the National Guard. He was a past board member of Memorial Hospital in Jasper. He was always active with his church, a former council member of St. Joseph's Church in Jasper, for 40 years a Hospitality Minister of Blessed Mother in Owensboro and later the same at Epiphany in Louisville. He was active in the Sages of Epiphany church.
Mr. Keller is survived by wife, Betty of 67 years, the former Betty Berger, seven children, Beverly Thurmond (Ron), Margaret Bowen(Richard), Ann Bailey(Todd), Charlotte Kieffner(Ron), Kathleen Sauer(Bruce), Denise Ritter, and Tony Keller(Julie); and twelve grand-children and 4 great-grandchildren. Mr. Keller was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Stanley and Kenneth.
Mr. Keller's funeral will be held at 10AM, Tuesday February 10th at Epiphany Church, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road, Louisville. Burial will follow to Calvary Cemetery in Louisville. Visitation time will be Monday, February 9th from 2pm-8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the building fund of Epiphany Church in Louisville or to your favorite charity.
