Dennis Wayne Carlton

Dennis Wayne Carlton, age 77 of Louisville, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2025 after a long battle with Alzheimers.  Dennis was born on June 14, 1947 to the late Joe and Elizabeth Carlton in Louisville, Kentucky.  He attended Waggener High School.  Following high school he proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.  He wore his Vietnam Veteran hat frequently with honor.  

After returning from military service, he married the love of his life, Joyce Spanyer.  They went on to have four sons and Dennis started his career as a meat cutter, working with his father at Joe Carlton's Meat Shop before moving to Kroger.  He worked as a meat cutter there for 30 years until his retirement in 2009.

Dennis was an avid lover of the outdoors and spent much of his free time fishing, hunting or riding around Nolin Lake in their pontoon boat with his wife and granddaughters.  His grandest memories of the lake were riding in the golf cart on early mornings with them.  

Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 57 years who he adored, Joyce; his sons, Brent Carlton (Beth), Brian Carlton (Tonya), Brad Carlton and Chris Carlton; his granddaughters, Shelby Phoenix (Dale), Sydney Carlton, Emma Carlton, Maggie Carlton and Avery Carlton, who he loved to the moon and back; siblings, Joe Carlton (Cindy), Denise Fee (Doug) and Beth Blanton (Ben); and his dear friends, Jerry Rankin and Doug Fee; and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm on Monday, June 2, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243.  A celebration of Dennis' life will follow there at 6pm.
