Denise Elizabeth Banet, 70, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, in Floyds Knobs, surrounded by the warmth and love of her husband of 43 years and her devoted family. She was born on December 19, 1955, in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Denise was a proud graduate of Clarksville High School and went on to attend classes at IUS. She worked diligently for more than 32 years as a clerk for the United States Census Bureau, bringing the same steady dedication to her work that she brought to every part of her life.
She will be remembered as a loyal wife, devoted mother, and compassionate grandmother. Denise was humorous, free-spirited, honest, and hardworking, and those qualities shaped the many lives she touched. She loved the beach, going out to eat, spending time with friends, attending concerts, and listening to rock ’n’ roll. She also loved the Derby and found special joy in the beauty and feeling of fall.
Halloween and spooky season held a special place in Denise’s heart. She delighted in everything macabre and creepy, and she especially loved celebrating the season with her family. Some of her happiest moments were spent baking with her granddaughters and sharing holidays with her grandchildren. She loved her pets, including her dog Sage, and treasured the comfort and happiness they brought to her life.
Above all, Denise’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was watching her family grow and succeed. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry Banet; her children, Stephen Mayfield and his wife, Deborah, Meagan Vowels and her husband, Steven, and Will Banet and his wife, Casey; her sister, LeAnn Page; and her cherished grandchildren, Keifer, Kai, and Konrad Mayfield, Lily, Amelia, and Violet Vowels, and Samuel, Aarron, and Claire Banet. Each of them carried a special place in her heart, and the love she gave so freely will remain with them always.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Stanley, and her father, Clifford Stanley.
A memorial gathering will be held on September 26, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150. A funeral service will follow there at 6:00 p.m.
Denise will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her warmth, her laughter, her spirited nature, and the deep love she had for her family. Her memory will live on in holiday traditions, in music turned up loud, in time spent at the beach, and in every autumn season that brings to mind the joy she found in life.
