Delores M. "Dee" (Smith) Elwanger, 72, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2019. Dee loved NASCAR, her dog Maggie, and her family and friends, especially her grandson, Carl. She retired from the U.S. Census Bureau in 1994 after 27 years of service. Dee was known as a shoe and coat enthusiast who enjoyed watching many series and movies on television and Netflix and recently started attending AL-ANON family group meetings in loving support of her grandson.
She was born on December 15, 1946, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Frank and Dora (Bline) Smith. Along with her parents, Dee is preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl R. Elwanger; daughter, Laura Leigh Elwanger; and siblings, Joyce Ringle and Larry Peyton.
Dee is survived by her loving daughter, Sherry L. (David) Bowman; grandson, Carl W. Bowman; beloved dog, Maggie Mae; and many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - New Albany (3309 Ballard Lane). Her Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
The family requests that contributions in Dee's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Humane Society of the United States.
