Delbert Edward Rakes, a cherished husband, devoted father, and compassionate grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, at his home in Floyds Knobs, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on August 12, 1948, in Albany, Delbert’s life was a testament to dedication, resilience, and deep-rooted love.

For numerous years, Delbert worked diligently as an assembly line worker at General Electric, where his impeccable work ethic and commitment stood as a beacon of inspiration. His practical skills extended beyond his professional life; he enjoyed refurbishing vintage finds and working in his yard, often transforming ordinary objects into cherished treasures. Delbert found joy in the little things, such as going for walks and spending precious time fishing, always relishing the company of his family and friends.

Delbert proudly served his country as a military veteran during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his character and instilled in him a profound sense of duty and loyalty. These qualities carried over into his personal life, as he was known for being a loyal brother and steadfast friend.

Family was Delbert’s proudest accomplishment. He took great joy in watching his loved ones grow and succeed, and he fostered deep connections with those around him. His legacy lives on through his devoted wife, Sharon Rakes, his son, Christopher Rakes and his step-daughter, Shelly. Delbert embraced his role as a grandfather with joy; he adored his grandchildren, Taylor Humpton and Noah Humpton, and was always eager to be involved in their lives.

Delbert is survived by his loving sisters, Carolyn (Ronald Akers) Akers, Marcella (Zeno Adamo) Adamo, and Christina (Steve Rickets) Rickets, as well as many friends who cherished his companionship and warmth. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Edward Rakes and Beulah Rakes, and his siblings, James Alvin Rakes, Margaret Schupert, Danny Rakes, and Gary Wayne Rakes. Their memories remain a part of him as he inspired countless lives during his time on Earth.

As we celebrate Delbert's life, we hold onto the fond memories of his warm smile, gentle spirit, and the love he so freely gave. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his love will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Following Delbert's wishes, he is to be cremated with no services held.
