Deborah Sue Dungan

Deborah Sue Dungan, beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, and friend, passed away on July 27, 2026, at the age of 68. Those who knew and loved her will remember her generous heart, infectious smile, and the warmth she extended to all who walked into her life.

Born on February 4, 1958, Deborah's journey was marked by resilience, love, and a true zest for life. With a personality best described as bubbly, kind, caring, and inquisitive, Deborah had a gift for making lasting connections. Her beautiful smile could light up any room, and her warmth let everyone know just how much she cared.

Deborah’s devotion to family was evident in every chapter of her life. She was the cherished wife of Mark Dungan, who stood faithfully by her side throughout their years together. Her legacy lives on through her children: Susan "Michelle" Dotson (Joseph) and Michael Strickland (Jackie), each of whom carry forward her traditions of compassion and joy. Deborah found immense pride and happiness in her role as "Grandma" and "GiGi," showering love on her grandchildren—Caisey (Ben), Bradley, Damian (Emily), Addison, Savannah, Hannah, Daniel, and Izaiah. She also adored her great-granddaughter Hazel, who brought yet another sparkle to her proud legacy as a matriarch. Her fur-baby Maddie Mae was a constant and cherished companion, bringing comfort and laughter to Deborah’s days.

Family gatherings held a special place in Deborah’s heart. She lovingly organized holiday traditions, ensuring that every occasion was memorable and filled with laughter. These moments, treasured by her family, are woven into the fabric of their lives and will forever be celebrated as part of her enduring spirit.

Deborah’s professional journey was defined by dedication and steadfastness; she served as a secretary at Jewish Hospital for an impressive 42 years. Through her long and exemplary tenure, she formed connections that lasted beyond her daily work and touched countless lives with her kindness.

Her life was equally rich outside of work. Deborah loved to read, travel to Florida, and spend time with her grandchildren—those lunch dates and adventures with friends always gave her joy. She had a particular fondness for driving around and discovering new experiences, whether it was trying a restaurant she hadn’t visited before or embarking on a spontaneous trip. She delighted in time spent with Maddie Mae, finding simple happiness in their walks and quiet companionship.

Deborah is survived by her devoted husband Mark Dungan; her loving father Robert Simpson; her children Susan "Michelle" Dotson (Joseph) and Michael Strickland (Jackie); her grandchildren Caisey (Ben), Bradley, Damian (Emily), Addison, Savannah, Hannah, Daniel, and Izaiah; her great-grandchildren, Hazel, Jaxson and Lucas; and her cherished Maddie Mae. Each of them carries a piece of Deborah’s compassion, her warmth, and the light she brought into their lives.

She is reunited in peace with her mother Janet Simpson, her brother Robbie Simpson, and her nephew Robert Simpson, all of whom preceded her in death.

Deborah’s impact on her family, friends, and all those she encountered will not be forgotten. Her unwavering caring nature, inquisitive mind, and the boundless love she gave are her gifts to us all. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and treasured memories—a reminder to cherish our loved ones and embrace each moment as Deborah did.

Visitation for Deborah Sue Dungan will be held on July 31, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.

Though the world feels dimmer without her bright presence, Deborah’s love will echo through generations—her laughter ringing wherever her family gathers, her compassion inspiring all who remember her.

The family wants to send a special thank you to the care team at Norton Women's and Children's hospital and the Hosparus unit who took excellent care of Deborah as well her sister- friends; Rae, and Mary; friends, Joan, Kelly, Becky, Lisa, Mary Ann and many others.
