David Weston Weller (“Butch” to those close) passed away at his home in Taylorsville, KY on Monday, July 28th, 2025.
He was 82, a son of a WWII and Korean War Air Corp officer and a high school science teacher.
Dave was retired from the Dept. of Commerce, Census Bureau and was a Louisville resident most of his life. He was a member of the Cave Research Foundation, Louisville Grotto, Louisville Area Woodturners, Clark County Amateur Radio Club and Lyndon Volunteer Fire Department during his life.
His great passion and contribution was caving in Kentucky and surrounding states. He also enjoyed supporting his daughter’s very musical family and his son’s technical workplace projects. Dave could fix anything and used his skills to help others build and repair things. He also helped his daughter build a full-sized flying trapeze and was working with his son on restoring a theatre pipe organ.
He was preceded in death by his parents David F. and Gertrude Weller and his brother Richard Weller.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Jean Weller and by his two children, David (Kari) and Sheri Quinn (Timothy) and six grandchildren: David E, Mahalea, Jonathan (Sarah), Eliana, Aimee Reed (Keaton) and Bria Quinn; brother, Robert Weller (Carol); and sister-in-law Cynthia Weller, as well as three great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 6, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, and on Thursday, August 7, from 9:00am to 11:00am, with service to follow, at Newcomer, Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, East Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville KY, 40243.
