David Raymond Smith, age 85, was born in Louisville, Kentucky on July 14, 1940, to Leslie Raymond Smith, Jr. and Virginia Louise Stark. He passed away unexpectedly on April 25, 2026, at Norton Clark Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
David was a devoted family man who cherished every moment he spent with his family. He often spoke fondly of childhood summers on his Grandma Maggie’s farm in Cecilia, Kentucky. Growing up in the church, he developed a love for gospel music and made treasured memories with his brother Jerry and sister Janet—memories he cherished throughout his life. He recounted a teenage road trip to Florida before interstates existed. A proud Butler High School alumnus, he often mentioned being its first graduate in 1958. David met his wife, Anna Nation, while working at a local grocer and they were wed May 27, 1967. David’s greatest joy was his four children: Leslie, Anthony, Andrew, and Joshua. He often filled the role as coach for his children’s sports teams and supported all their aspirations for their future. David was incredibly proud of his grandchildren – Stephanie, Jonathan, Avery, Eben, Graham, Magnolia, and Adeleine – and great grandchild, Silas, often sharing stories of their accomplishments and cherishing the time he spent with each of them.
David is survived by his loving wife, Anna Nation Smith, their four children, Leslie Condra (Brad), Anthony Smith (Jenna Seymour), Andrew Smith (Ashley), and Joshua Smith (Salina), his grandchildren, Stephanie Condra, Jonathan Condra, Avery Smith, Eben Smith, Graham Smith, Magnolia Smith and Adeleine Smith, and great grandson, Silas Condra. Left to treasure his memory is his sister, Janet Davis (Rick), sisters-in-law, Barbara Montgomery (Ted) and Nancy Riordan, along with many nieces and nephews and several cousins.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Leslie and Virginia Smith, his brother, Gerald Smith, and his sister-in-law, Sandy Smith.
The family will be holding a private celebration of life at a date later to be determined. In lieu of flowers, expressions of condolences can be made to Rauch Industries.
