David Quinton Mayfield, 47, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. David was a loving and forgiving friend who thrived on making people laugh. As a younger man, he worked for the Greenville Water Company. He loved his work as a mechanic at Kepley Excavating in Greenville and also served on the Greenville Volunteer Fire Department from where he retired as a captain. In 1996, with little experience, David began rebuilding parts of a century-old house in Galena. Over the course of several decades, he became a skilled carpenter and plumber. He drove a race car for the first time in the Affordable Ford race at the Clarksville Sportsdrome in 2018. David was an avid Colts and IU Basketball fan, loved his Kawasaki motorcycle, and treasured his time spent with his grandsons, Leo and Drake.
He was born on March 23, 1971, in New Albany, Indiana, to David Whitaker and the late Sherrian (Sears) Mayfield. Along with his mother, he is preceded in death by his grandfather, Marvin "Punk" Sears; and his brother, Clinton Mayfield.
Along with his father, David is survived by his brother, Tommy Whitaker; sister, Michelle Millard (Scott); his companion of 24 years, Barbara Wood; grandsons, Leo and Drake Keables; stepdaughter, Rachel Snell (Scott); aunts, Mintie Kemp (Richard), Shelley Dunn (Tony), and Mary Sears; and grandmother, Pauline Baird.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Parkway Southern Baptist Church (2508 Corydon Pike, New Albany) with a dinner following in the Friendship Hall.
