After a well lived life, traveling all over the world, David Mateja passed away on May 7, 2026. David grew up in Louisville Kentucky, where he graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1966. He graduated from the University of Louisville in 1970 and earned his MBA from Indiana University in 1992. David was a proud board member of the Louisville Opera, Rolling Thunder KY5 and the Waterfront Botanical Gardens. As a former service member, he was an active supporter of the University of Louisville ROTC.  David was a three-time competitor in the Senior Olympics and a lifelong tennis and golf enthusiast.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Major Alan Mateja; and his parents, Patricia and Raymond Mateja.

David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Susan Ott Mateja; his son, Chris Mateja (Alayna Papaiacovou); his grandson, Owen David Mateja; his sisters, Margi Willan and Sharon Bohnert (Ken); many nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral service on July 10, 2026 at Epiphany Catholic Church. Visitation at 10:00 am and funeral service at 11 with a reception to follow.
We will all miss him very much. David was a true gentleman who made everyone feel special.
