Our sweet, wonderful, and deeply loved David Kenneth Hoback, Jr., 61, passed away peacefully at his home in Sellersburg, Indiana, on June 21, 2026, after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 8, 1964 in Louisville, KY. David filled every chapter of his life with love, loyalty, laughter, and an unmistakable spark that drew people in and kept them close.
David’s first and deepest passion was always family. Fiercely loyal and endlessly dependable, he showed up for the people he loved without hesitation and without limits. If you needed him, he was already on his way.
From the time he was a little boy, David lived and breathed music. A natural on the drums, he made sure quiet time was a rare commodity in the Hoback household. His talent and energy became a cornerstone of the Louisville music scene, where he played with Speak English, Hopscotch Army, Nuevo, Midnight Special, Soul Circus, and many others who were proud to share a stage with him.
When he wasn’t behind a drum kit, David was often on two wheels. He loved the freedom of the open road and spent countless hours riding the Tail of the Dragon and other unforgettable routes. Whether onstage or on a motorcycle, David embraced life with a boldness that inspired everyone around him.
But David’s greatest gift wasn’t his rhythm or his fearlessness — it was his connection to people. He had an unmatched ability to speak his mind with honesty, humor, and heart. He could make anyone laugh, lighten any moment, and bring joy into even the hardest days.
David will be lovingly remembered by his father, David Kenneth Hoback, Sr.; his mother, Wendy Sue Hoback; his sister, Edie Lynn Hoback Pfeffer (James); his uncle Jerry Lynn Hoback; his aunt Donna Earlene Bessinger, Linda Sue Greenwell, Darvin Bishop, Roger Bishop; many cousins; and a vast family of fellow musicians and friends who were, in every way, part of his tribe. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers Myrtle Edith Buster (Witten) and Virgie May Bishop (Williams); his grandfathers Elbert F. Buster and Lewis B. Hoback; aunts and uncles Bette Sterns, Bobby Buster, Eddie Hoback (Brenda), Wanda Corum (Sonny), Donald Hoback, and Delores Michaels.
A celebration of David’s life and legacy will be held on July 12, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Chateauneuf-du-Hoback, 860 Dreyer Lane, Sellersburg, Indiana. Come on neh!
In honor of David’s generous spirit, he requested donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
David may be gone from sight, but the impact he made — the music, the laughter, the love — will echo in our hearts forever. Tally ho, sweet boy!
