David Creech Helton

October 22, 1925 — September 6, 2021

David C. Helton, age 95, of Louisville, went to his Heavenly home on September 6, 2021. He was born on October 22, 1925, to the late Mary Ellen and William Creech Helton in Cumberland, Ky. He was the last surviving of his four brothers and four sisters. His family was very active in their church and as a child he decided to love and serve Jesus, which he did throughout his life. David was a proud World War II veteran. While a senior at Cumberland High School, he decided to leave before graduation to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Forces when he learned of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served as a ball turret gunner on a B-24 "Liberator" with a copy of the 23rd Psalm in his pocket. After his Honorable Discharge, he attended and graduated from Western Kentucky University before he began his career of 38 years with G.M.A.C. He was respected for his strong work ethic and integrity. David was a Shriner, a Kentucky Colonel, a Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, and served in his church in many ways through the years. His son, David Randall Helton, preceded him in death.

David was also known as a loving family man, frequently telling family members how proud he was of them and how much he loved them, especially in his later years. Surviving David and cherishing the many special memories of him are his wife of 70 years, Linda Helton; his daughters, Sheryl Kellenberger (David), Lynn Helton, and Melissa Miller (Brad); his grandchildren, Valerie Paasch, Darren Paasch (Natalie), Landon Kellenberger, Megan Helton (Galen Brazell, fiancé), William Miller, Jessica Miller (Brad DePaoli, fiancé), Justin Helton, and Heather Allen (Jason); three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his church family in the Friendship Sunday School Class at Westport Road Baptist Church.

There has already been a celebration in Heaven as his Savior told David, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"

Celebration of Life services will be 11am Friday, September 17, 2021 at Resthaven Memorial Park, 4400 Bardstown Road Louisville, Kentucky 40218 at the pavilion with military honors.

Memorials may be made in David's memory to a ministry close to his heart, the Children's Ministry at Westport Road Baptist Church located at 9705 Westport Road, Louisville, Ky 40241.
